Reloop, alongside a broad coalition of organisations from across New Zealand’s beverage industry, waste and recycling sector, NGOs, local councils and community groups, has signed an open letter calling for the urgent adoption of a Container Return Scheme (CRS).
The coalition highlights the scheme’s potential to modernise the country’s recycling system, increase recycling rates, create jobs, support community initiatives, and align with national waste reduction and climate goals.
Similar deposit return systems are a proven and effective solution for tackling single-use beverage container waste, reducing litter and keeping valuable materials in circulation. Schemes worldwide have demonstrated significant environmental and economic benefits, making it a practical and sustainable choice for New Zealand.
