Our policy recommendations for the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) highlight the urgent need to address the environmental impact of single-use glass packaging.
With single-use glass having the highest environmental footprint, we believe the PPWR presents a crucial opportunity to guide the reduction of its usage and promote the adoption of reusable glass alternatives by 2040.
To achieve this, we, together with Zero Waste Europe, propose a set of measures including material-specific waste prevention targets, sectoral-specific reuse targets, the inclusion of glass beverage containers in deposit return systems with a 90% collection target, and the implementation of recycled content targets for packaging placed on the market.
By embracing these recommendations, we can unlock the full potential of glass and pave the way towards a more circular economy.
